Buckley’s Renewal Center offers affordable DOT Physical Examinations for drivers in Maryland, DC and Virginia. If you need your DOT medical card, simply come to Buckley’s for your physical examination. No appointments necessary, just walk in during our business hours .

 

Maryland Law concerning the Medical Examiners’s Certificate ( DOT Medical Card ) :

Even if you are not required to have a CDL, you may still need a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT card).  Maryland law requires you to carry a DOT card if your vehicle:

  • is used for commercial purposes; and
  • weighs more than 10,000 pounds.

Please note that the DC DMV vigorously enforces the validity of the Medical Examination Status for those that hold a DC Commercial Drivers’ License. When your DOT card expires and is not renewed, your Driver’s License will be suspended util you present a current Medical Card to the DMV.

 
VA

A DOT physical exam is valid for up to 24 months. The medical examiner may also issue a medical examiner’s certificate for less than 24 months when it is desirable to monitor a condition, such as high blood pressure

How to Apply for your Maryland Commercial Driver’s License

STEPS For getting your CDL lerner’s Permit

First - Get your DOT Medical Examination

Along with your U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination you will also get a DOT medical Card.

Walk-in , No appointment necessary.

Next - Submit your Learner’s Permit Application to the MVA

Go to the Nearest MVA to submit your Maryland CDL Learner’s Permit, You will need the following:Proof of age, identity, and Maryland residence. Please refer to sources of proof for required documentation.
• You must pass a vision and knowledge test.

• You must be 18 to obtain a learner’s permit for a CDL Intrastate, 21 years of age for Interstate. In addition you must also have a full driver’s license (does not include a motorcycle license).

• You will be required to disclose your social security number.

• Out-of-state learner’s permit cannot be exchanged for a Maryland learner’s permit.

To Obtain Another Maryland CDL Learner’s Permit, Please Bring:
If you already hold a learner’s permit and want another one, you must reapply as if it was your first learner’s permit and bring your proof of age, identity, Maryland residence and your expiring learner’s permit. Please refer to sources of proof for required documentation.
• You must pass a vision and knowledge test.

• You will be required to disclose your social security number.

• A valid U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card or a valid intrastate or interstate waiver. The Medical Examination Report for DOT physical card information is downloadable. The CDL Medical Waiver Information Packet for an intrastate or interstate waive is also available.

• Out-of-state learner’s permit cannot be exchanged for a Maryland learner’s permit.

DOT Physical exams are valid for a maximum of 2 years depending on your health condition.

To prepare for your physical exam please dress comfortably and if you wear glasses, please bring them along. Avoid stress and excess food because your blood pressure and sugar levels will be checked.
